Classroom Information

I understand that you and your child may have excitement and/or apprehension for the upcoming school year. I hope this website will let you know what to expect in 1st grade and answer any questions you may have. We look forward to working with you and your children this school year. My goal is to instill the love for learning and provide a nurturing and supportive environment for all children.

Parent Volunteers

I strongly encourage you to volunteer in the classroom if you are able. I will, however, not be asking for classroom volunteer help until after we complete the first month of school. It is important for me, as your children’s teachers, to develop a bond and classroom routine with your children. Children can easily be distracted when their parents are in the classroom so I would like the chance to set the tone in our classrooms before parents come in to volunteer. I will send an e-mail and form asking your volunteering preferences at the beginning of the school year. From that information we will create a volunteer schedule so you will know exactly when you will be helping in our classrooms. If your child has difficulty focusing or completing his/her work while you are volunteering in the classroom, you may be asked to volunteer in another location in the building or to help from home

Transportation

If you plan to pick up a child that normally rides the bus or if you wish for your child to come home a different way than usual, you MUST send a written note/e-mail or call Parmalee’s front office a at (303) 982-8014. Children can be easily confused so we cannot take their word for how they will go home in the afternoon. If a written note, e-mail, or phone call is not received your child will be sent home by his/her usual method of transportation.

Outdoor Recess

The children will be going outside for recess every day unless it is raining or snowing heavily. Please keep this in mind when helping your child select clothing for the day.

Specials

All students will participate in Art, Music, and PE. If your child does not wear sneakers, he or she will not be allowed to participate in PE that day. Your child's teacher will notify you of the specials schedule. Our classes will be going to the school library weekly for book check-out.

Money

On occasion it will be necessary for your child to bring money to school. ALWAYS send money in a sealed envelope with the following information on it:

· Your child’s first and last name

· The amount of money

· The purpose for the money (lunch money, field trip money, etc.)

· Teacher’s name

School Time

8:50 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
*Your child will not be allowed to enter my classroom before the morning bell rings.

Absences

In the event your child will be absent from school, please email me and call the attendance line at 303-982-8020. Please make your best effort to make appointments after school.

Birthdays

Per the district's policy, you are NOT ALLOWED to send in edible treats for your child’s birthday. Some alternatives to edible treats are pencils, stickers, erasers, and bookmarks. Any items that you send in will be given out at some point during the day when it fits into our schedule. Parents/siblings do not come to the classroom for birthdays. You are welcome to come have lunch with your child in the cafeteria on his/her birthday if you would like. Please just sign in at the office before heading to the cafeteria.

Snack/Water

Students will need to bring a snack. Please make sure the snacks you send in for your child are nutritious. The following snacks are NOT allowed: peanut butter items (make sure you check the ingredient on granola bar packages), surgery foods, fruit cups, applesauce and yogurt (they can spill or explode). Feel free to send the above food items in your child's lunchbox for lunch in the cafeteria. Snacks that are pre-packaged and dry are best. The snacks should be something your child can open independently and eat quickly at his/her seat. I will only have 5-10 minutes for snack. I will send an e-mail to let you know of any food allergies in our class so you can be sensitive to other children’s needs when sending in your child’s snack. Snack in scheduled in the afternoon. I encourage you to send in a water bottle daily that your child can keep at his/her seat to make sure he/she stays hydrated throughout the day. Twist-top bottles are NOT allowed as they are very difficult for the kids to open and tend to spill. Only water should be sent to school. Juice, sports drinks, or sodas are also NOT allowed in the classrooms. Feel free to send these items in your child's lunchbox to have in the cafeteria.

Class Management

My classroom rules will be created by your children on the first day of school. Rules typically look similar to what is listed below.

  First Grade Rules

1. Be nice

2. Be responsible

3. Be safe

Parmalee Goes Paperless

Almost all information that comes from our classrooms will be sent via e-mail or posted on this class website. Please make sure we have a current e-mail address for your family so you can receive all important classroom information. You will not receive any junk e-mail from me, only school communication.

Communication

I am unable to have conversations with you at drop off or pick up as our focus must be on the children. Please schedule a conference so we can give you our full attention. I am happy to meet with you before or after school. Just email me to set up a time. The best way to reach me is via e-mail. I check my e-mail before and after school. If you call during the day, the secretary will take a message and I will return your call as soon as possible. Calls will not be put directly through to the classroom during instruction. Please click on the "Contact Us" tab in the left sidebar to contact us directly.

Kind regards,

Julie Lane
