English as a Second Language (ESL)

At the elementary level, Jeffco students who qualify for ESL services receive support from ESL staff working in collaboration with classroom teachers, ensuring multilingual learners have access to core, grade-level content. In addition, ESL staff provide small group instruction (typically within the general education classroom) for specialized English language development needs.

Jeffco's English as a Second Language (ESL) program supports multilingual learners academically and linguistically. Teachers and tutors from the Department of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education (CLDE) use a range of strategies to help students who are learning English access rigorous, grade-level content while developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in English.
