Mental Health Supports
Mental Health Supports at Parmalee Elementary
Parmalee Elementary’s mental health team and psychologist consist of a Social Emotional Learning Specialist, a Gifted and Talented (GT) counselor and a school social worker.
These specialists provide direct and consultative mental health and behavioral services primarily to students who have been identified as having an educational disability and are eligible for special education or 504 plan services.
They provide assessments and interventions for students who are in the evaluation process for special education eligibility. They can serve any student in the school in a crisis situation or those who have attained parental consent. They have expertise in community resources to provide more intensive services to students and families in need.
Psychologists and social workers generally work with students with more specifically defined academic and social and emotional or behavioral needs as identified in their Individualized Education Program (IEP) as determined by the school’s Special Education team. These needs are typically addressed in smaller group settings or with individual students.
